The Role of the Manager Overview
Aim
The aim of this module is to give new managers the opportunity to explore the role of a manager, raise their self awareness around their own style of working and identify how to develop respect amongst their teams as a manager and leader.

During the session all participants will have the opportunity to...
- consider what management is and what skills a manager needs to be effective
- consider what leads to managers gaining and retaining respect
- discuss how your role differs from a non management role and address the issues facing a new manager
- explore the area of exchanging expectations with managers, colleagues and team members
- look at different behaviour types and the characteristics and consequences of each
- identify the stages of the Work Cycle, including
- defining a statement of purpose
- setting SMART objectives
- monitoring performance against objectives
- running an effective one to one
- giving feedback on performance
- practice feedback skills
- identify a personal action plan
