Mentoring Skills
Aims
This module will provide some practical guidance on making the most of a mentoring scheme and also focus on developing the skills needed to be an effective mentor.
Objectives
During this module participants will have the opportunity to cover…- how to define what mentoring is and how it can help organisations and individuals develop
- the benefits of mentoring to both the mentor, mentee and the organisation
- what makes a good mentor
- using a framework for effective mentoring
- the key skills needed to mentor effectively including….
- building rapport
- questioning
- listening
- the importance of agreeing a mentoring contract
- the challenges of being a mentor and how to approach them
- using some of the key skills in order to build confidence in a mentoring role
The event will be participative with a variety of training aids used to cater for the differing learning styles likely to be present in the group. To ensure the opportunity to learn is maximised roleplays will be used. Respecting the need for confidentiality delegates are invited to share their experiences in this area and to ask questions at any time.
