What does email fall-out cost your business?

“No email day”  is coming up on the 7th July and despite so much research telling us we should not be slaves to our inbox and to limit what we use email for, nothing much seems to change.

But what if overuse of email was hitting your bottom line?

Research says that 60-80% of all difficulties in organisations come from strained relationships between employees, not from deficits in individual employee’s skill or motivation. 

And guess what the major source of strained relationships is?  Poor communication.

Using email as the default communication method is the root cause of so many tensions and frustrations…because 

  • it is open to misinterpretation 
  • It does not create any kind of productive discussion
  • It often leads to incivility – people saying things they would never say to someone’s face

Research from Christine Porath shows that uncivil behaviour causes

  • 48% of people to intentionally decrease their work effort.
  • 47% to intentionally decrease the time spent at work.

This hits the bottom line.

So use No email day as a way to get people talking to each other again and not defaulting to a communication channel which often causes so many more problems than it solves….
