Tracy Powley - Director of Operations

Stella Chandler and I founded Focal Point on a shared belief that a training course run in isolation doesn't work. We passionately believe there must be support both before and after the training or coaching session itself for it to make a difference to an organisation and this underpins our work with all our clients.

Having worked in both large businesses at management level and in 2 start ups at director level, I am able to combine hands on experience of growing and managing teams with 15 years in learning and development.  I hold the Certificate in Training Practice and am a member of CIPD.

When I am not facilitating sessions with clients or looking at ways to grow the Focal Point business, you will find me in a calming yoga class...

Stella Chandler - Director of Development

StellaI thrive on seeing people do things they didn’t think they could do!  

I draw on my management and leadership experience from working in senior positions in the Metropolitan Police Service, running Focal Point since 2002 and working across all three sectors in the widest variety of environments.  

Because we rarely learn things first time, we believe it is vital to provide support before, during and after the events we run, in order to get the best from them.  Time and time again people have told us how the chance to review their learning and to have their actions reinforced has really helped cement new ways of doing things. This is what has then made the difference that they and we are looking for.  

I am a fellow of the CIPD and when I am not working with clients I can be seen on the golf courses of Hampshire.

Janet Harvey-Mott - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

My background of working in the recruitment industry in an expanding SME through to managing teams of senior recruiters at Director level for a large PLC, has provided me with the tools, experience and confidence to train others within this industry. The experience and skills I have gained have transferred extremely well into other industries -  especially those with sales teams, customer service providers or newly promoted managers.

My approach is always very practical and encouraging, motivating individuals to try new approaches and providing them with the tools and confidence to develop their skills.

I’m a Fellow of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals.

When I’m not training in the business-sense, you’ll probably find me training in other ways, trying to keep fit & healthy!

Catherine Hamilton - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

I have over 20 years experience in the private sector, working as an internal consultant developing diversity and inclusion strategies, local and global interventions, raising awareness and understanding of dignity at work, generating champions and employee networks for the business and facilitating key learning interventions.

In the last 5 years I have broadened my client base and my work has included: designing an e-learning intervention to support understanding of inclusion and diversity; designing and delivering short, focussed unconscious bias sessions and webinars; working closely with HR to develop skills to champion D&I; designing and facilitating tailored programmes to develop inclusive leadership skills.

I am passionate about developing others and supporting them to become more aware of their own behaviours and the impact this has on others, through both 1:1 coaching and group workshops. My aim is always to enable sustainable behavioural change.

I hold an NVQ IV in Learning & Development, Business Coaching Diploma and am a trained mentor for start-up businesses.

When I am not running workshops and programmes for clients you will find me leading a community choir and watching my 3 musical children performing.

Graham Elder - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

I have been a professional facilitator, learning designer and coach for more than 25 years. I work nationally and internationally, with clients as diverse as Fujitsu, HP Enterprise, the John Lewis Partnership, UK Ministry of Defence, National Health Service and the Government of Ghana as well as law firms, media organisations, rail engineering and social services.

Developing people in areas such as strategic account management, facilitation skills, coaching and leadership presence, personal effectiveness is always at the heart of my work. My goal is that learners take away real practical tools they can use to achieve tangible and sustainable results, enabling them to be more skillful at being themselves, whether as communicators, presenters, project managers, sales people or leaders.

I love working with blended solutions, and have designed numerous learning programmes incorporating approaches like workshops, coaching, action learning sets, e-learning, Webex and more recently online gaming.

I’m a qualified MBTI assessor, ILM and ITOL accredited coach, licensed Thomas International Emotional Intelligence assessor and a qualified RMS 360 feedback assessor, as well as being Transactional Analysis accredited.

When I’m not working, you’re likely to find me perusing the menu in a good restaurant and fancying myself to be a gourmet, or trying to burn off the calories with my boots on, walking over the hills and fields of Kent and Sussex.

Andrew Rundle - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

As part of the Focal Point Training team, I draw on my extensive HR experience of providing specialist input on all aspects of employee relations, change management and organisational development. I have held a number of senior roles at both a strategic and operational level.  My most recent experience included establishing a mediation service within a large Mental Health charity.

I have a particular skill in resolving workplace conflict by helping people to find practical solutions to what are often complex and sensitive issues and have a track record of supporting teams to facilitate and implement effective change.

I am a fellow of the CIPD and have been trained by ACAS as a workplace mediator and obtained accreditation as a performance coach for the NHS through Strathclyde University.  

When I am not training or coaching, you will find me taking my cocker spaniel for country walks, in the kitchen cooking (making a mess as my wife describes it) or attending a local pub quiz.   I am a governor at a local primary school and I have recently taken training to become a 'life mentor' for young people.  I could also be described as a fair weather cyclist and dream of leading the peloton in "Le Tour"!

Sue Carruthers - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

I am a highly experienced trainer, facilitator and consultant who combines a background in business and finance with the “softer skills” of working with people and communication.

A Chartered Accountant by qualification, I have over 25 years’ experience in training and developing people – in both line management and Learning and Development roles. I now specialise in helping organisations to create the conditions to allow people to play to their strengths and give of their best at work - in essence to become “great places to work”.

As well as my extensive experience in design and delivery of OD interventions and leadership and management development courses, I have worked more strategically in Learning and Development.

I have worked across a wide range of organisations and in the public, private and not for profit sectors. As well as this breadth of experience, I draw upon a wide range of ideas in my work including Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), solutions focus, systems thinking, positive psychology, neuroscience, accelerated learning, acting techniques and developmental psychology.

When I am not facilitating workshops for my clients you will find me walking briskly along the Thames towpath, organising local community events or relaxing with a cup of tea and the West Wing box set.

Cheryl Burgoyne - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

I am a Learning Consultant, Facilitator and Coach with over 20 years experience. My background is based on working and leading in a number of global organisations, mainly in operational areas, which has allowed me to develop a practical understanding of how businesses conduct themselves.

My passion for success in others is driven by a solid focus on employee engagement and how this generates high performance. I believe in connecting with others on a personal and strategic level to influence change, which generates learning which is purposeful and engaging.

I am also very experienced in designing and delivering Trainer/Facilitator development and ensuring that the right people, with the right mindset and skills, can deliver learning locally. I fully understand that this adds a level of credibility to the learning and can support efforts to achieve this.

When I’m not working I can usually be found in the kitchen, as it’s my favourite place in the world!  Secretly, I want to be owning a small, intimate restaurant.

Chris Brown - Associate Learning and Development Consultant

Coming from a strong business, training and coaching background Chris is a highly qualified executive coach and leadership and management trainer. He has delivered coaching, mentoring and training into a broad range of businesses and organisations from local authorities to car manufacturers and a lot in between.

Chris is passionate about the power of coaching and leadership and their ability to transform the lives of busy managers. Today's workplace needs strong leadership and Chris sees his mission as helping to develop today's managers into tomorrows leaders.

In his spare time Chris plays guitar in a band. He also enjoys running and reading.

Heather Staunton - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

A trainer, facilitator, coach and accredited Belbin Team Role consultant, I specialise in the areas of management, leadership, communication, personal development and wellbeing.

I have worked with small, medium and large organisations, as well as those based locally, nationally and internationally, and have coached and trained people at every level from junior staff up to Chief Executives.

I feel privileged that I am able to facilitate others learning and development and I love being able to help people build their skills, behaviours, knowledge and confidence. I create a supportive and engaging learning environment to ensure that learners are able to take away practical solutions that they can apply back in the real world.

When I am not training, you will find me spending time with my family, travelling and practicing yoga.

Andrea Stallan - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

I am passionate about working with employees and line managers in organisations large and small to help them create inclusive working environments.

I am a post graduate in Personnel Management and a Chartered Member of CIPD. In addition, I am a certified NLP Practitioner.

I draw from over 25 years experience of working in a variety of HR positions, predominantly in the private sector. In recent years I have focused on Diversity and Inclusion. This includes project managing a women’s development programme, event management of D&I Award Ceremonies and Conferences and design and delivery of a number of diversity training interventions, both face to face and e-learning based. Years of facilitation, training and coaching have given me many interesting experiences and I often call upon these during group discussions.

When I am not working you will find me watching my teenage boys playing football or enjoying a Pilates class. I am also trying my hand at writing my first novel!

Helga Davies - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

My field of expertise is influence and impact.  I work nationally and internationally coaching and training leaders to strengthen their ability to influence effectively and to align their desired impact with their actual impact.  By so doing the leaders become more credible, more efficient and more able to promote good quality relationships at work.

My work is informed by many sources including my leadership background, as the head of department for a recruitment company, MD of an orphanage in East Africa and an Organisational Change Consultant for a large UK automotive parts company, plus the16 years of coaching executives and training leaders as well as current research and best practice.  

I’m passionate about developing leaders to be the best they can be and offering them practical support, thinking, tools and techniques that help them and their organisation be more successful.

Outside of work you may find me in the gym, walking the dog or reading a book but rarely in the kitchen - I’m a terrible cook!

Jackie Staunton - Associate Learning & Development Consultant

I have over 25 years as an HR and Development professional with over 12 years at board level in the media, academic, recruitment and healthcare sectors. With a passion for assisting executives to operate at an optimal level, I now focus on executive coaching and management/leadership development. Whether it’s developing strategy, executing tactics, building personal resilience, a work/life balance or having the confidence to have that critical conversation, coaching is a powerful intervention. Delivering coaching based on being solution focussed is my preferred style and to give clients a combination of high support and high challenge.

I am a Chartered Fellow of the IPD, have a Masters in HRM and a diploma in Executive Coaching from the AOEC. If that isn’t enough acronyms I hold level A and B certificates with BPS and am an accredited facilitator for Insights discovery and Motivational mapping. I have been an internal assessor for the Institute of Customer Services and ILM Level 5. I am also trained by ACAS in mediation and have studied NLP.

When at leisure I can be found either on the tennis court or at the gym to combat my other passion -food and drink! I am Chair of Trustees for Canine Partners, an assistance dog charity who train amazing dogs to transform the lives of those with disabilities. 

Debbie Stanfield - Support Manager

I joined Stella and Tracy at Focal Point in 2003 and have seen both the Company and my role evolve during this time.  I now work closely with the management team to achieve and improve business efficiently.  

My background combines strong organisational and PA skills at management and director level.  I feel passionately about building relationships with our clients and providing a solid foundation of business support as the company moves forward.   My approach is very flexible and I enjoy getting involved in all aspects of the business.

To re-energise myself after a day in the office, I like to go to Zumba classes in the evening! 

John Stanfield - Project Administrator

I am passionate about working with organisations and individuals to help them improve efficiency and grow performance. I thrive on the challenge of implementing changes to successfully maximise business and cost benefits.

I pull on my management experience from working in a variety of leadership and project roles in the Financial Services Industry. In recent years, I have continued to use my skills and knowledge supporting organisations to set, plan and meet their objectives.

I am professionally qualified and an Approved Business and Enterprise Mentor with the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (MIoEE)

Not opposed to relaxing with a nice glass of red wine at the weekend!

Nina Norris - Company Administrator

Working with Focal Point has shown me just how effectively a team of people can work closely and in harmony together, and achieve great and rewarding results. 

I am enthusiastic about planning and organising to make sure everything runs smoothly and on time. I like to look at the way things are done and strive to improve the process where I can. I particularly enjoy liaising with our clients and the rest of the team, always with a view to building up good working relationships.

Prior to joining Focal Point in 2012 I built on my organisational, financial & customer service skills working for Southern Water and the John Lewis Partnership.

When I am not working I enjoy spending time outdoors walking, mountain biking and shooting at the archery club, with my family.

Suzanne McLachlan - Company Administrator

I developed my organizational, logistical and administrative skills through managing the restaurant and events for a Large London Law firm and latterly by organising and managing events for a Local Care Home. 

My role at Focal Point is to ensure that support for our clients and trainers is smooth and seamless.

When I am not working I love to go on days out with family and friends, I enjoy playing racquet sports and being creative with arts and crafts.

Kate Ridley - Company Administrator

I joined the team in 2017 after spending many years as a secretary/PA, having worked in both London and Sydney, before finally settling on the sunny South Coast.

I have worked within Investment Banking, Law and Marketing companies over the years, and have run my own children's clothes shop and now work as a VA supporting a range of businesses.

When I am not working I am kept busy with my two children, husband and two miniature dachshunds, along with volunteering for the Royal Voluntary Service, as a Home Companion.
